The steering wheel heating system will not be active with an
ambient temperature above the system set point temperature. The steering
wheel heater element is connected through a wire harness and regulated
through an electronic control module. The control module responds to a
temperature sensor’s (negative temperature coefficient - NTC
thermistor) resistance change, which is in direct contact with the
steering wheel heater element. The system switch provides a means to the
end user to turn the heater ON/OFF and, is attached at shroud or
steering wheel. The complete assembled steering wheel shall regularly
operate within the temperature range of -40°C ~ +115°C and the
humidity range of 0 ~ 90%.The expected life of the steering wheel
heating system shall be the expected life of the vehicle (15 years or
240,000 km).The composed parts of the Heater(heater main part, switch,
harness etc.) shall not occur faults such as disconnection, short
circuit, destruction, electric leakage, or separation of parts when
assembled to actual vehicles. The steering wheel heating system shall be
compatible with the air bag module and the steering column attachment
structure. During deployment of the air bag (with or without occupant
loading), the steering wheel heating system shall not inhibit the
opening of the air bag or cause fragmentation of the air bag module. The
steering wheel heating system shall not fragment during deployment.
Components shall not separate or fragment from the fully assembled
heated steering wheel during air bag deployment.Provisions will be
necessary to allow electrical connection of the steering wheel heating
system to the power connection area. All electrical connectors should
mate using blind installation methods. The connectors shall provide
audible feedback when engaged and provide methods for verifying terminal
retention and connector engagement. Wires shall be routed so that
pinching of wires during installation of the air bag module does not
occur.
